We all remember 9-11, even if you were born after that date, you have heard about it, as it was the most significant experience since 1776, the Independence of the United States from the British.
Having traveled the world, and being part Croatian, I am well aware what the rest of the world has endured in civil and multi-national wars, and how those people have triumphed over terrorist attacks while the United States has had the privilege of mostly avoiding these cowardly acts of aggression.
In my book, Love First and War, I put forward a belief that for some will be difficult to accept. But for me, it is the only way to look at the dramatic contrast and suffering that the events of 9-11 brought forth on this nation and the world.
The souls who participated in the loss of life on that day agreed to this as their reason for being on the planet. Think about it. One hour later the losses would have been 5 times greater, the timing of the attack, the fact that most of the victims were multi-cultural, young, old, rich, poor, these factors made clear one idea:
WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER. The lessons we have taken from that day, to live more consciously, to love more openly, to examine the United States’ place in the world, so many lessons to recount here, all of this is a GIFT. There are no lives lost in vain, they teach us, remind us, and encourage us to be grateful, to choose love, not fear.
I always say, “Terrorism only works if I am terrified. I will not be afraid.” Because I KNOW that death is inevitable, it’s coming, no doubt about it, but how I LIVE and LOVE is the challenge and that is something I can control.
“Today I will stop and reflect on the gift of enlightenment my fellow human beings offered us on 9-11. I will be grateful for their gift and for the extraordinary miracles that occurred on that day.”
