I have done workshops to assist co-workers to communicate better, employees and bosses learn how to have a productive dialogue, and entrepreneurs how to envision and then execute their dreams.  The one thing these groups have in common? They all signed up because they really did want to do their best.  I don’t believe in answering a question that has not been asked because that answer would be irrelevant.  What do you want and why do you want it? That’s my first question to you.

When’s the last time you woke up and did not have an agenda for your day? Successful people and those who are working towards success know that to get things done you have to plan your work and work your plan.  But there is something to be said for a day with no plans at all.  To simply wake up and see where the day takes you. And so from one of those rare days for me, I wish you all a blessed Sunday.

Several of you commented on yesterday’s blog about Triggers so clearly, I have triggered something! Let me explain for those who have English as a second language:  The word trigger comes from the trigger of a gun.  The lever you pull to fire the bullet.  For those who felt I was not clear enough about what kind of triggers:  When I speak of triggers, I am going to exclude the military or those in law enforcement or those who have suffered rape, or severe physical abuse. The Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is not to be confused with the emotional triggers of our dysfunctional upbringing! So with all due respect to those who felt my blog made light of PTSD, I wasn’t talking about PTSD.  Next time I will be more specific.  In any event, thanks for reading and all your comments, they are appreciated!

Our “triggers” become embedded in our psyche at an early age. Something happens that we don’t understand and can’t find anyone to explain and so our survival instincts kick in and we “make up” a story to fit the feelings. When a similar event occurs later in life, we are “triggered” back into those survival stories from our past. Triggers can be released through therapy, but first we have to recognize that we have a trigger.

“Today I will become willing to look at my reactions to events and see if my response is reasonable or creates deeper feelings of fear or anxiety.  I will then be willing to seek the help to understand and release that trigger.”

Lost

Lost

Only when we are willing to let go of what is known and be lost in the journey can we truly find ourselves. Removing the comfort zones and asking for new experiences leads to self-awareness.  When we challenge ourselves to the unknown we push our brain and soul to grow.

Back when I was little and we drove everywhere for our holidays, I remember my mother giving my dad directions from a big map.  Nowadays you use Google maps on your phone, but here’s the thing.  Google maps gives you its idea of the correct journey.  When you are actually looking at a map with all the different routes to your destination, YOU decide which path to take.

Life is like a paper map, so many wonderful ways to get to joy, it is up to you to choose the route that makes the most sense to YOU.

The sign of a mature person is their ability to “self-police”. This means that you are willing and aware enough to catch yourself when you have taken an action or had a behavior that is unkind, self-destructive, or straying from your authentic self.

We are not perfect, we will make mistakes, it is the evolved person who accepts this and with self-love and respect, knows how to say, “I am sorry, Forgive me, It won’t happen again.”

Remember when you were little? For some bath time was a challenge, a test of wills, a fight. For others, it was a place of fun and love. For me, to be in the water and feel completely relaxed is heaven. Whatever you find relaxing and comforting my wish for you is to remember to take the time to practice that ritual, others will love you more for being more balanced.

Distractions, social media, what everyone else is doing, keep us from being focused on our own path. How much time do you give each day to thinking about your future? Where do you want to be in 5 years? Success does not happen by accident, it is carefully planned and executed.

Change the Story

Change the Story

When we keep telling the same story to the world this vibration stays activated. Yes, we must tell our story to heal, to help others, but if we are only telling our story to justify negative behavior or to have an excuse to stay in pain, then we need to examine our motives and be honest with ourselves. Try telling a new story about the future, what do you prefer for your life? We can’t change the past, but we can use that contrast of what we don’t want to give us clarity about what we would prefer.
