There are REALLY, REALLY serious issues in the world. Life and death issues, health and illness issues, poverty, injustice, violence. But I am constantly amazed at what social media defines as “serious”. Or what many people allow to ruin not only their day, but in some cases, their life.
When you are finding yourself getting really upset over something do you ever stop and ask, “Life threatening or just annoying?” Most of the time it will just be annoying. If you are not going to die from it, (it might feel like you are dying, I know) then let’s start choosing an appropriate response.
Letting someone else know you have been upset by his or her choices is fine. (This is where you get to use “SAVE DRAFT”!) Threatening to do bodily harm to them or slander them online is not. State your case, gracefully, please, and if the other person does not respect you enough to respond the same way, reaching for a solution, LET THEM GO. You do realize that you can block them online, right? And only you can keep making the choice to read what they post? It doesn’t matter what they think of you, only what you think of yourself.
“Today I will ask myself if what I am upset about is worth ruining my day over. If it is not, I will respectfully share my feelings and be willing to let it go.”
