One of the greatest realizations in my life was understanding that my reality is based on my perception of it. It may sound odd, but what you are experiencing is your perception of reality, and your perception may be quite different than someone else’s! How you view a situation in your life is shaped by prior experience and beliefs. This is why two people can be in the same experience and have completely different reactions. Taking this as a truth, I found that if I gave myself a chance to examine my reaction I could actually bring myself to a different reality by changing my thinking about the experience. This is where compassion, understanding, and letting go of my ego allows me to soften my resistance and “see” from a more loving and open heart.
“Today I will see what is and notice my reaction. Then I will examine that reaction and be willing to see how my past wounds influence my now. With love and compassion for myself, I will be willing to see the experience, this reality, with new eyes.”
